Springfield United’s popular Summer Sixes competition is back for 2026! 

Keep the football going after the winter season with eight weeks of fast-paced, social 6-a-side football at Springfield Central Sports Complex. Whether you are putting together a team of club teammates, friends, family or workmates, Summer Sixes is a great way to stay active, keep your touch sharp and enjoy plenty of football in a relaxed off-season environment.

Games are shorter, fields are smaller and the format creates plenty of touches, goals and action.

Spaces are limited and several competitions are already full, so teams are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

6-A-Side is one of the best ways to keep enjoying football outside the regular season.

It is ideal for:

• Players wanting to stay active over summer
• Teams wanting a social end-of-year competition
• Friends, family members or workmates wanting to play together
• Senior players looking for extra touches and match fitness
• New or returning players wanting a fun way back into football

The smaller fields and reduced team numbers mean more involvement, more touches, more chances and plenty of goals.

Duration: 8 weeks
Format: 7 regular rounds plus one finals round
Where: Field 1, Springfield Central Sports Complex, Sportstar Drive
Pitch Size: Quarter field
Game Length: 40 minutes total — 2 x 20 minute halves
Players on Field: 6 players — 5 outfield players and 1 goalkeeper
Minimum Players Required: 5 players
Equipment: Boots and shin pads are required

The finals round will generally be played as 1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th and so on. This may be adjusted depending on the number of teams registered.

Monday - 5.30pm; 6.20pm, 7.10pm and 8:00pm

Friday* - 5.30pm; 6.30pm; 7.30pm and 8.30pm

*For the Friday games, we will aim to have the Mixed, Men's and Women's competitions run in different time slots so that players can compete in Men/Women and Mixed if they wish.

2026 fixtures will be released before the competition begins.

Teams must have their team fees paid before they can be allocated into the fixture draw.

Fixtures may be adjusted throughout the competition where required due to team withdrawals, weather or other operational requirements.

Rules & Regulations – 2026

1. Team Numbers

• Each team may field a maximum of 6 players at any one time (5 outfield players and 1 goalkeeper).

• A team must have a minimum of 5 players to commence or continue a match.

• Teams unable to field the minimum number of players will forfeit the match, with a 5–0 result awarded to the opposition.

• Unlimited substitutions are permitted throughout the match.

2. Game Format

• Matches consist of 2 × 20-minute halves, with a 5-minute halftime break (45 minutes total).

• Matches will commence at their scheduled times.

• Teams must be ready to take the field at their allocated kickoff time.

• Forfeited matches will be recorded as a 5–0 victory to the non-forfeiting team.

• There is no offside rule in Springfield Summer Sixes.

3. Player Registration & Eligibility

• Players must meet the age requirements of their nominated division.

• Players may only participate for teams in which they are registered, unless otherwise approved by competition management.

• Teams found fielding unregistered or ineligible players may be subject to forfeiture or further disciplinary action.

• Competition management reserves the right to determine player eligibility and approve exceptions where appropriate.

4. Player Safety

• Hats, jewellery and watches are not permitted during matches. Referees may require players to remove prohibited items before participating.

• Slide tackles are not permitted. Players may slide to intercept or keep the ball in play, provided the action does not endanger another player.

• Dangerous tackles, striking, verbal abuse, time wasting and unsporting behaviour will not be tolerated.

• Referees have the authority to remove players from the field for dangerous or inappropriate conduct.

5. Score Blowouts & Fair Play

Springfield Summer Sixes is committed to providing a positive, competitive and enjoyable environment for all participants.

• Teams are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for their opposition, particularly when there is a significant difference in ability.

• Where a team establishes a goal difference of 5 or more, coaches and managers are encouraged to make appropriate adjustments to maintain a competitive and enjoyable match.

• These adjustments may include rotating player positions, encouraging additional passing or providing greater opportunities for less experienced players.

• Teams should avoid deliberately running up scores against significantly weaker opposition.

• All matches will continue for the full allocated playing time, regardless of the scoreline.

• Competition management reserves the right to address repeated instances of poor sportsmanship or conduct that goes against the spirit of the competition.

• The Maximum goals a team can record is 10. (ie, a 15-1 win will be recorded as a 10-1 win.). This is only applicable when this equation doesn't alter the result. 

6. Substitutions

• Substitutions are unlimited and may occur throughout the match.

• Players entering the field must wait until the player they are replacing has fully left the playing area.

• Substitutions should occur near the halfway line and must not interfere with active play.

• If a player enters the field before the substituted player has exited, the referee may award a free kick to the opposition from halfway or the most advantageous position.

• Goalkeeper substitutions must be communicated to the referee.

7. Kick-Ins

• When the ball crosses the sideline, play restarts with a kick-in rather than a throw-in.

• Opposition players must remain at least 5 metres from the ball.

• A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-in. The ball must touch another player before entering the goal.

8. Goalkeepers & the Goalkeeper Area ("D")

• Goalkeepers may use their hands within the designated goalkeeper area ("D").

• All players may enter the "D", except opposition players during goal kicks.

• The ball may be passed back to the goalkeeper; however, the goalkeeper cannot handle a deliberate kick from a teammate.

• If a goalkeeper handles a deliberate back pass, an indirect free kick will be awarded to the opposition.

• Goalkeepers cannot punt or drop kick the ball directly from their hands.

• The ball must be thrown, rolled or released to the ground before being kicked.

• From a goal kick or a throw from the goalkeeper's hands, the ball cannot travel over halfway on the full. If it does, the opposition will receive a free kick from halfway.

• Once the goalkeeper releases the ball from their hands, the ball is live and may be contested.

• Goalkeepers must release the ball within a reasonable period and must not deliberately waste time.

9. Free Kicks

• Unless otherwise stated, all free kicks are direct.

• All Penalties are to be taken with a ONE STEP run up, not a full run up. 

• The exception is a goalkeeper handling a deliberate back pass, which results in an indirect free kick.

• Opposition players must remain at least 5 metres from the ball when a free kick is taken.

• Referees may award free kicks for dangerous play, prohibited slide tackles, deliberate handballs, obstruction or other infringements.

10. Kickoffs, Goal Kicks & Corner Kicks

• Matches commence with a kickoff from the centre of the field.

• Kickoffs also occur following a goal.

• Opposition players must remain at least 5 metres from the ball during kickoff.

• A goal may be scored directly from kickoff.

• Goal kicks are awarded when the attacking team last touches the ball before it crosses the defending team's goal line, outside the goal.

• Corner kicks are awarded when the defending team last touches the ball before it crosses its own goal line, outside the goal.

• Goalkeeper distribution restrictions apply to all goal kicks.

11. Mixed Competition Rules

• Mixed competition teams must have a minimum of 2 female players on the field at all times.

• If only 1 female player is available, the team must play with a maximum of 5 players until a second female player becomes available.

• If no female players are available, the team cannot commence or continue the match and will forfeit 5–0.

• These requirements apply for the entire duration of the match.

12. Referee Decisions & Disciplinary Action

• All referee decisions relating to matters of play are final.

• Referees have the authority to issue warnings, yellow cards and red cards for misconduct.

• A yellow card may be issued for unsporting behaviour, dissent, persistent infringements or reckless challenges.

• A player receiving a second yellow card or a straight red card will be dismissed from the match and cannot return.

• Players dismissed from a match may face further suspension or disciplinary action as determined by competition management.

• Abuse, intimidation or threatening behaviour towards referees, opposition players, spectators or competition officials will not be tolerated.

• Competition management reserves the right to suspend or remove individuals or teams for serious or repeated misconduct.

13. Competition Points & Ladder

• Win: 3 points

• Draw: 1 point

• Loss: 0 points

• Forfeit: 5–0 result awarded to the opposition.

Where teams finish level on competition points, ladder positions will be determined by:

1. Goal difference

2. Goals scored

3. Head-to-head result

4. Competition management determination if teams remain equal

14. Forfeits & Abandoned Matches

• Teams unable to fulfil a scheduled fixture must notify competition management as early as possible.

• Teams that fail to field the minimum number of players will forfeit the match.

• Forfeited matches will be recorded as a 5–0 result in favour of the non-forfeiting team.

• In the event of severe weather, unsafe playing conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, competition management may postpone, cancel or abandon matches.

• Competition management will determine whether abandoned matches are replayed, rescheduled or recorded as completed.

15. General Conduct & Sportsmanship

• Springfield Summer Sixes is a community-based competition focused on participation, enjoyment and fair play.

• Players, coaches, managers and spectators are expected to treat referees, opposition teams and competition officials with respect.

• Offensive language, aggressive behaviour, intimidation and deliberate unsporting conduct will not be tolerated.

• Teams are responsible for the behaviour of their players, coaches and associated spectators.

• Competition management reserves the right to take appropriate disciplinary action where conduct falls below expected standards.

16. Competition Management

Springfield United Football Club reserves the right to interpret, amend and enforce competition rules where necessary to ensure fair play, player safety and the smooth operation of Springfield Summer Sixes.

Any matters not specifically covered by these rules will be determined by competition management.

All players must be registered in Squadi to be covered for insurance purposes.

Players who are not registered will not be covered if they are injured.

Registration is free for players who played in Football Queensland or QMF competitions during the year. An additional charge may apply for players who did not play in those competitions.
