Springfield United’s MiniRoos program is one of the largest junior football programs in Brisbane, providing opportunities for players from Under 6 to Under 12 across a wide range of skill levels and experience.
MiniRoos is where many children begin their football journey. It is designed to be fun, inclusive and age-appropriate, helping players develop confidence, friendships, teamwork and a love of the game.
Whether your child is brand new to football or has been playing for several years, Springfield United aims to provide a positive team environment suited to their age, ability and stage of development.
MiniRoos is the junior football program for players aged Under 6 to Under 12.
MiniRoos uses modified football formats designed specifically for younger players. Depending on the age group, games may be played in smaller-sided formats such as 4v4, 7v7 or 9v9, giving children more opportunities to touch the ball, make decisions and be involved in the game.
The focus is on:

Springfield United provides a welcoming club environment where young players can learn, play and belong.
Our MiniRoos program offers:
MiniRoos is not just about learning football skills. It also helps children build confidence, make friends, learn teamwork, listen to coaches, support teammates and enjoy being active.
Registrations for the 2026 MiniRoos season are completed through the Springfield United registration system.
Before registering, please make sure you have reviewed the registration information, fee informationand registration process pages so you understand the required steps and payments.
When registering, please select your child’s correct age group based on their year of birth. If your child’s age group is full, please do not register them in another age group. Instead, please complete the waitlist form and the club will contact you if a position becomes available.
Families may be able to provide team, friend or training preferences during registration. Springfield United will do its best to consider requests where possible, however preferences are not guaranteed and team placement depends on player numbers, coach availability, field space and team balance.
Players are not fully registered and cannot train or play until all required registration steps and payments have been completed. This includes Springfield United registration, Football Queensland registration through Squadi, and Football Australia registration through LetsPlayFootball where required.
Every child develops at a different pace.
Some players are new to football and are still learning the basics. Others may have been playing for several years and are ready for a more challenging environment.
Springfield United offers MiniRoos teams across different levels so players can be placed in an environment that best suits their current stage of development.
Our aim is to help every player feel supported, challenged and confident.
MiniRoos is a great option for children who:
Your child does not need to be experienced to join MiniRoos. Many players start as beginners and develop confidence throughout the season.
Kangaroos
Kangaroos teams are for players from Under 8 to Under 12 who have average to above-average skills and are generally more experienced.
These teams are suited to players who are ready for a more challenging football environment and may be looking to continue developing towards advanced football pathways.
Kangaroos teams generally train two nights per week.
These teams are generally suited to players who have some football experience and are continuing to develop their skills and confidence.
This may include players who have played club football before, participated in school football, or taken part in football clinics or programs.
Non-Kangaroos teams generally train one night per week.
Training days and times are confirmed once teams are finalised.
As a general guide:
Families are able to provide team or training preferences during registration. While the club will do its best to consider preferences, they cannot be guaranteed.
MiniRoos games are generally played on Saturday mornings from April/May to September, as determined by the Football Queensland calendar.
Games may be played at Springfield United or away at other clubs, generally within the Ipswich and south-west Brisbane region.
Girls teams may occasionally travel further depending on the number of teams available in each age group.
Fixtures and draws are released through Squadi once finalised by Football Queensland.
Players registered in MiniRoos are expected to attend:
MiniRoos is a team-based program, and regular attendance helps players build confidence, develop skills and support their teammates.
Families should consider training and game commitments before registering.
Trials are held for Kangaroos teams only.
Players who are not selected for Kangaroos teams will return to the MiniRoos player pool and be placed into a suitable community MiniRoos team where possible.
Kangaroos trials are usually held in late January or early February, depending on the season start date.
Families who select yes for Kangaroos trials during registration will receive further information approximately 2 to 3 weeks before trials commence.
Players should only nominate for Kangaroos trials if they have the relevant football experience, skill level and commitment required for a more challenging MiniRoos environment.
Players are generally expected to attend 1-2 trial sessions.
Following the initial sessions, players who meet the assessment requirements may be invited to attend further trial sessions. Players who are not continuing in the trial process will be released back into the MiniRoos player pool for team placement.
For players seeking a more advanced football environment, Springfield United also offers an FQ Academy pathway from Under 10 to Under 12.
The FQ Academy is separate from the standard MiniRoos community program and provides a more structured development environment for selected players.
MiniRoos players who show strong commitment, ability and coachability may choose to trial for Kangaroos teams or future Academy opportunities as they progress.
For more information, please visit our FQ Academy page.
