NAIDOC Kit

It is with great pleasure that we present the NAIDOC celebration kit for SUFC:

Springfield United 2020 NAIDOC Jersey Social Media Presentation

The Springfield United NAIDOC jersey was undertaken as part of the club's partnership with Veto Sports.

MA Deadly Art, a Brisbane-based Aboriginal Art and Education Services company, were commissioned to create the artwork from which the shirt design would be produced.

MA Deadly met with SUFC and Veto to understand the story behind the club and the local area, before undertaking additional research and creating artwork on canvas. The canvas, and accompanying story, can be seen below and will be displayed proudly in the SUFC clubrooms going forward.

The playing jersey was developed by Veto using the canvas artwork. The jersey was by our Capital Men squad during NAIDOC week in November 2020 and will be rolled out to additional teams across the club during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

MA Deadly Art  - 2020

"This piece was completed for Springfield United FC to celebrate not only their proud acknowledgement to indigenous culture and talent but also their inclusiveness to people of all walks of life. This artwork captures the key values of the club as a whole and the journey of all members.

The centre of the piece represents the football club itself and its central position to all its members. The circle of dots represents community or meeting circle which is a key part of the club ensuring all are welcome. Surrounding the centre circle (club) is a set of journey lines, they represent the different journey for everyone to eventually arrive welcomed at the club. It also doubles in meaning representing the diversity of the club with everyone being welcome to play and participate. These Journey lines are connected to several cluster community circles on the outside of the painting. This represents the diversity of the club and people coming from all different walks of life to participate and join the club.

On the outside of the centre meeting circle are U shapes - the one with the single line and tip at the end represent male warriors, or in this case the male players of the club, whilst the other represents women with Coolamons, or in this case the female players at the club. Outside of the male and female players are frog and kangaroo tracks which are an important animal symbol to the local area.

On the outside we have incorporated some waterways to represent “Springfield Lakes” and the speckled effect on the outside shows the abundance of stars over the Springfield area.

We enjoyed sharing our feeling and interpretations to complete this piece and can’t wait to see it as a jersey!"
